Through the life of his Church, Jesus Christ offers himself as a companion to every family experiencing the suffering and death of a loved one. Christ helps to ease our burdens through the Sacraments, the Word, and the community of people he has brought into our lives.
In addition to the love and care of relatives and friends, suffering families may need assistance with hospice care, funeral arrangements and bereavement services. The Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Washington, Inc., respectfully offers the following list of local resources:
"The Church calls each member of Christ's Body — priest, deacon, layperson — to participate in the ministry of consolation:
to care for the dying,
to pray for the dead,
to comfort those who mourn."
