“...For we know that when this tent we live-- our body here on earth-- is torn down, God will have a house in heaven for us to live in; a home he himself made, which will last forever...”
— 2 Corinthians 4:16 - 5: 10
The Church has always cared for those who grieve while honoring the memory of those who have died. A Catholic cemetery is a sacred place both for personal prayer for the souls of friends and family members, and for the prayer of the whole Church at the monthly Masses in the cemetery chapels.
Lord, support us all the day long,
until the shadows lengthen and the evening comes,
and the busy world is hushed
and the fever of life is over
and our work is done.
Then in thy mercy grant us a safe lodging
and a holy rest,
and peace at the last.
Amen.— St. John Henry Newman

"So it is that the union of the wayfarers with the brethren who sleep in the peace of Christ is in no way interrupted, but on the contrary, according to the constant faith of the Church, this union is reinforced by an exchange of spiritual goods."
— Catechism of the Catholic Church 955 (2)
